Chapter 01
Save An Old Door
Look at a tired steel door and the story is in the edge. The latch misses the strike, the bottom corner scrapes, and the hinge screws have worked loose in a frame that has taken thousands of swings. Most people assume the door is finished.
If your door no longer fits in the frame, and will not close right, a continuous door hinge will usually help.
The photo on this page is one of our own jobs: a worn steel door at Irwin Research with a new continuous hinge running the length of the edge.

Make A New Door Last Longer
Want your new door to last longer in high traffic areas then add a continuous Hinge.
A standard door hangs on three or four hinge points, and every swing leans on them. A geared continuous hinge runs the full height of the door, so the load spreads along the whole edge instead of landing on a few knuckles. Less leverage on the screws means less sag over the years.
The install is hands-on work at the door: measure, take off the old hinges, fit the new hinge along the frame edge, fasten it, then swing the door and check that it closes square. We do that in Yakima, Ellensburg and Toppenish.
