SAFE SERVICE

Safe service and combination change

Safe repair and combination changes from the shop counter on West Washington Avenue in Yakima.

Chapter 01

The safe that won't open

A safe that won't open usually reaches the Valley Lock & Key counter as one of three stories. The combination has slipped away, the dial has gone stiff and gritty, or the handle turns and the bolts stay where they are. Each story points at a different part of the safe, so the first job is working out which one is yours.

A forgotten combination is a problem with the lock and the numbers. A stiff dial is often worn or dirty inside, and forcing it tends to make the next visit harder. Bolt trouble is its own category: the lock may be fine while the steel refuses to move. That is trade work, not guesswork, and nobody can promise an outcome from a phone call. What we can do is tell you which of the three it sounds like.

Mel Patnode left five stars on Google after a safe problem that had to be sorted before Monday. That is the kind of call the Yakima shop takes: a closed safe, a deadline, and someone who wants a straight answer.

Combination changes and service

A new combination makes sense after a move, after someone leaves the household or the payroll, or any time more people know the numbers than you'd like. On many dial and keypad safes the change is a short job once the door is open and the lock is in good shape.

Service is the quieter half of the work. A dial that spins loose or drags, a handle with play in it, a lock that opens on the third try instead of the first. Catching that while the safe still opens is a better day than the one after it stops.

Chapter 03

What to have ready when you call

Call (509) 575-3631 Monday to Thursday between 8:00 and 4:30, or Friday between 8:00 and 4:00. After hours service is available. Tell us the make and model if you can read it off the door or the dial plate.

Tell us where it sits, whether that's a closet, a basement or a slab it's bolted to, and what's inside that you need out. The last detail matters more than people expect, because it shapes how carefully the job has to go.

If your safe question doesn't fit any of this, the shop's own line applies: if you do not see your needs listed, please call and ask. The counter is at 3402 W Washington Ave #118 in Yakima.

Valley Lock & Key has served the Yakima Valley since 1963, and safe service and combination change is on the shop's own service list.
